‘Portraits & Landscapes’

Exhibited January 2013

This series of paintings is mainly inspired by Eva’s connection to Bristol and its surrounding counties, landscapes and people. Having lived in Bristol all her life she feels a natural affinity with its architecture and the people who live here.

Eva usually specialises in portrait paintings but started painting landscapes as a personal challenge while on holiday in Cornwall. She has used a similar photo-realistic style as she uses in her portraits, but she is also guided by the abstract memories and images of the city retained from childhood.

In her portraits she uses dramatic lighting and deep colours to set the mood and atmosphere and reveals aspects of the sitter’s personality. The subjects are all Bristolians and people she knows and believes that she reveals some of their character within the paintings.
