The signature of La Rioja Alta is the use of American oak for all the range, a range notable for the high quality at all levels from the crianza Vina Alberdi through to the three Gran Reservas. The pinnacle wines are named for the year of merger with Ardanza – Gran Reserva 904 (dropping the “1”) and the year of founding – Gran Reserva 890. Named after the date of the creation of La Rioja Alta – 1890 – this cuvee is the ultimate flagship wine from the company. Made only in the best vintages, Gran Reserva 890 is made from 96% Tempranillo with a soupcon of Graciano and Mazuelo. It matures for 6-8 years in American oak cask. This wine is suitable for both men and women.
